PART 1
The Crown Prince stood beside his father's coffin.
His face was calm.
His tears looked real.
The entire kingdom mourned King Alaric's sudden death.
Everyone blamed an unexpected illness.
Everyone...
Except Princess Elena.
As the funeral ended, she noticed something strange.
Her older brother never looked at their father's coffin.
Not once.
Instead...
He kept watching the royal crown.
Hours later, the Royal Council officially proclaimed Prince Damian the new king.
The nobles applauded.
The bells rang across the capital.
Yet Queen Sophia remained silent.
When Damian approached to receive her blessing, she whispered only four words.
"I know what you did."
Damian smiled.
Then kissed her hand.
"So does no one else."
The queen's face turned pale.
That night, she secretly summoned Princess Elena.
She handed her an old iron key.
"Go beneath the western chapel."
"If anything happens to me..."
"...never trust your brother."
Before Elena could ask why, the palace doors burst open.
Royal guards rushed inside.
"Your Majesty!"
"The Queen has been accused of poisoning the king!"
Damian entered moments later.
His royal robes were spotless.
His expression was filled with perfect concern.
"Mother..."
"I never believed you'd betray Father."
Elena shouted.
"She's innocent!"
Damian slowly produced a crystal vial.
It contained the same rare poison found inside the king's body.
"This was discovered in the queen's chamber."
The council gasped.
Queen Sophia quietly laughed.
Not because it was funny.
Because she understood.
Her own son had framed her.
She looked directly at Damian.
"You've already killed your father."
"Don't destroy what's left of this family."
Damian's smile disappeared.
"There is no family."
"There is only the throne."
The queen was arrested before sunrise.
Elena escaped using the iron key.
Hidden beneath the western chapel, she discovered a forgotten royal vault.
Ancient paintings covered every wall.
One portrait showed a much younger Damian standing beside the king.
Someone had scratched a sentence into the frame.
"The first attempt failed."
Elena's heart stopped.
She searched deeper.
Inside a wooden chest were letters.
Medical reports.
Receipts.
Secret payments.
Each document revealed another "accident."
A royal hunting trip.
A stable fire.
A poisoned banquet.
Every tragedy over the past five years...
Had one thing in common.
Prince Damian always benefited.
The final letter had been written by King Alaric himself.
"If I die unexpectedly..."
"Do not let Damian wear the crown."
Footsteps echoed through the vault.
Someone had followed her.
Damian slowly descended the stone staircase.
Behind him stood dozens of royal guards.
He looked at the letter and sighed.
"I hoped Father would burn that."
Elena backed away.
"You murdered him."
Damian calmly nodded.
"Yes."
"And he wasn't the first."
PART 2
The royal vault fell silent.
Even the guards looked disturbed.
Princess Elena stared at her brother.
"What do you mean... he wasn't the first?"
Damian folded his hands behind his back.
"When I was twelve, Father chose you as his favorite."
"He said you had the heart of a ruler."
"I realized then..."
"...the throne would never truly be mine."
Over the next decade, Damian secretly built a network of loyal nobles, spies, and mercenaries.
Every royal "accident" had been carefully planned.
The stable fire eliminated a rival commander.
The hunting accident killed the uncle who questioned Damian's ambitions.
The poisoned banquet silenced the royal physician who suspected the truth.
Finally...
King Alaric himself became Damian's last obstacle.
"I didn't destroy our family for revenge," Damian said calmly.
"I destroyed it because weakness never deserves a crown."
Elena held up their father's letter.
"You call love weakness?"
"I call it distraction."
At that moment, Queen Sophia appeared at the entrance of the vault.
Still wearing chains.
Captain Rowan stood beside her.
The captain had secretly helped her escape prison after discovering Damian had forged every piece of evidence.
Behind them came dozens of loyal knights.
Not everyone had chosen Damian.
The queen faced her son.
"I should have stopped you years ago."
Damian drew his sword.
"So should Father."
A fierce battle erupted inside the ancient vault.
Captain Rowan fought Damian's elite guards while Elena protected the king's final letter.
As Damian lunged toward his sister, the old stone floor cracked beneath him.
The royal vault had been built above an ancient underground chamber.
The collapse separated Damian from the others.
Trapped among the ruins, he reached desperately toward the royal crown that had fallen beside him.
Even now...
He reached for power before people.
Queen Sophia looked down at her son.
"After everything..."
"...the throne is still all you see."
The surviving guards lowered their weapons.
Without Damian's command, they surrendered.
The Royal Council gathered the next morning.
King Alaric's letter was read before the entire kingdom.
Every forged report.
Every secret payment.
Every confession hidden in the vault.
The truth could no longer be buried.
Damian was stripped of every royal title and sentenced to spend the rest of his life imprisoned in the abandoned fortress overlooking the sea.
Queen Sophia refused to execute him.
"I already lost my son."
"I won't lose my soul as well."
Months later, Princess Elena was crowned queen.
Her first decree abolished the rule that only the eldest child could inherit the throne.
"From this day forward," she declared,
"the crown belongs to the one who protects the kingdom... not the one who desires power the most."
The ancient royal vault was sealed once again.
Only one object remained inside.
King Alaric's final letter.
Above it, carved into the stone, were the words:
"A crown gained through betrayal is never truly worn... only borrowed until the truth returns."
