The Princess Discovered the Dragon Was Her Real Father

PART 1 — The Dragon Beneath the Throne

Princess Elara had been taught one truth since childhood: her father, King Aldric, had died protecting the kingdom from dragons.

But on the night before her coronation, she heard a heartbeat beneath the throne.

Following a trail of black scales through a forbidden passage, Elara entered a cavern beneath the palace. There, chained to ancient pillars, lay a colossal silver dragon with wounded golden eyes.

“You finally came,” he whispered.

Elara raised her sword. “Who are you?”

The dragon lowered his enormous head.

“I am Vaelor. And I am your father.”

Before Elara could answer, he revealed the impossible truth: King Aldric had stolen her from him as an infant, erased her memories, and imprisoned Vaelor beneath the castle.

Then the dragon spoke the words that shattered everything Elara believed.

“Your coronation is not a celebration, Princess. It is the final step of your father's spell.”

PART 2 — The Blood of the Last Dragon

Elara stared at the creature before her, unable to breathe.

“You expect me to believe that?” she whispered. “My father was a king. He died defending these lands.”

Vaelor's golden eyes reflected the torchlight. “That is the story he wanted you to remember.”

He lifted one enormous claw. The chains around his body trembled, revealing runes carved into the iron.

“Your father did not die, Elara. He died many years before you were born. Aldric was his brother.”

Elara's sword lowered slightly.

“Then why did everyone call him my father?”

“Because the real king disappeared.”

Vaelor's voice deepened until the cavern itself seemed to shake.

“Your mother was Queen Seraphine. She loved me before she knew what I truly was. I could take the form of a man, and together we dreamed of a kingdom where humans and dragons would live beneath the same sky.”

“My mother never mentioned you.”

“She tried.”

Vaelor looked toward the darkness.

“Aldric discovered the truth. He feared that a child born of dragon blood would inherit power greater than his own. So he betrayed us.”

Images suddenly flashed through Elara's mind—her mother crying beside a burning tower, a massive silver wing covering a cradle, and a young man with golden eyes screaming as soldiers dragged him away.

Elara staggered backward.

“Those are memories.”

“The spell is weakening.”

She touched her temple.

“Why now?”

“Because tomorrow you will sit upon the throne.”

Vaelor's expression became grim.

“The crown contains the final piece of Aldric's magic. Once you wear it, your dragon blood will awaken completely—and the kingdom's ancient wards will bind your power to the throne forever.”

Elara remembered the coronation crown resting in the royal chapel, its black jewels glittering like frozen stars.

“Why would Aldric want that?”

“Because he could never control my blood,” Vaelor answered. “But he believed he could control you.”

A sound echoed from the tunnel.

Boots.

Dozens of them.

Elara turned.

Royal guards flooded into the cavern, their swords glowing with enchanted blue fire.

At their head stood Chancellor Malrec, the king's most trusted adviser.

He smiled.

“Your Majesty-to-be. You really should learn not to wander.”

Elara raised her sword. “You knew.”

“Everyone who matters knew.”

Malrec gestured toward Vaelor.

“The dragon has served his purpose. Your blood will finish what Aldric began.”

Vaelor roared.

The cavern exploded with golden light.

Every guard was thrown against the stone walls, but Vaelor's chains remained intact.

“Run!” the dragon shouted.

Elara hesitated.

“I'm not leaving you.”

“You must reach the chapel. Destroy the crown!”

“And you?”

Vaelor smiled sadly.

“I have waited twenty years for my daughter. I can wait a little longer.”

Elara ran.

She raced through secret corridors as bells thundered throughout the palace. Servants screamed. Soldiers searched every chamber.

When she reached the chapel, she found Chancellor Malrec already waiting.

Behind him stood the royal council.

And on the altar rested the crown.

“You cannot destroy it,” Malrec said. “The crown is protected by the blood of the royal family.”

Elara stared at the black jewels.

“Then you made one mistake.”

Malrec frowned.

“What mistake?”

“You assumed my blood belonged to your king.”

Elara grabbed the crown.

Fire erupted from her hands.

The chapel windows shattered outward.

Golden scales spread across her arms. Her eyes turned molten amber.

Malrec stepped backward in terror.

“Dragon blood…”

Elara crushed the crown between her hands.

The entire palace shook.

Far below, Vaelor's chains shattered.

A roar rolled across the kingdom like thunder.

Vaelor burst from beneath the palace in a storm of silver wings, stone and fire raining from the towers.

Citizens poured into the streets, staring upward as the dragon circled the moon.

Elara climbed onto the highest balcony.

“People of Asterra!” she cried.

The kingdom fell silent.

“You were taught that dragons were monsters. You were taught that our kings protected you from them. But your kings lied.”

Malrec drew his sword.

“Seize her!”

No soldier moved.

Instead, one guard removed his helmet.

“My queen,” he said, “what do you command?”

Elara looked at Vaelor.

For the first time in her life, she saw not a monster beneath the castle, but the father who had spent twenty years waiting for her.

“Open the gates,” she said.

Malrec screamed.

“If you release the dragons, they will destroy us!”

Elara turned toward him.

“Then perhaps we should stop teaching the world to fear what we refuse to understand.”

Vaelor landed behind her.

His enormous wings folded around the balcony, shielding her from the night.

“There is one more truth,” he said quietly.

Elara looked at him.

“What?”

Vaelor gazed toward the eastern mountains, where thousands of tiny lights were awakening.

“I was not the only dragon imprisoned by your uncle.”

Elara's heart stopped.

Across the mountains came a distant roar.

Then another.

And another.

The kingdom trembled beneath the sound of waking dragons.

Elara smiled, though fear burned in her chest.

“Then we have a kingdom to rebuild.”

Vaelor lowered his head beside her.

“No, daughter.”

His golden eyes reflected the rising dawn.

“We have a world to reclaim.”

And as the first sunlight touched the ruined towers, the princess who had once feared dragons spread golden wings of her own.

That morning, Asterra witnessed the beginning of a new age—not ruled by humans or dragons, but born from the blood of both.
