The Princess Who Could Erase Any Memory—Even Her Father's

PART 1 — The Princess Who Could Make People Forget

The first person Princess Elara made forget her was her own mother.

She was only six years old when it happened.

Queen Seraphine had found her hiding beneath the grand staircase, crying after hearing two royal guards whisper that she was a monster.

The queen knelt beside her.

"You are not a monster," Seraphine whispered. "Whatever they say, you are my daughter."

Elara reached for her mother's hand.

The moment their fingers touched, the queen's expression went blank.

She blinked.

Then she smiled politely.

"Have we met before?"

Elara screamed.

That night, the king locked every door in the palace and ordered the servants to say nothing.

But the truth could not be locked away.

Elara had been born with an ancient power known as the Veil—a rare magic said to erase memories from another person's mind.

Kings had once killed for it.

Wizards had once gone to war over it.

And according to an old royal legend, the last person born with the Veil had erased an entire kingdom from history.

King Aldren refused to believe his daughter possessed such power.

Until she touched him.

It happened seven years later during a council meeting.

Elara was thirteen when she entered the throne room and found her father arguing with his closest adviser, Lord Varrick.

"You promised me the northern armies would arrive before winter," the king said.

Varrick lowered his head.

"They will, Your Majesty."

Elara stepped forward.

"Father?"

Both men turned.

The king's face softened immediately.

"Come here, little star."

Elara smiled and approached him.

But Varrick suddenly grabbed her wrist.

"Don't touch the king."

The room went silent.

Elara stared at him.

"Why?"

Varrick's face had gone pale.

"Because your mother taught me what your power can do."

Elara froze.

"My mother?"

Varrick looked toward the king.

For the first time, Elara noticed fear in her father's eyes.

That night, she searched the old library for answers.

She found a sealed book hidden behind a stone panel.

Its pages described the Veil in terrifying detail.

The power did not simply erase memories.

It could remove people, events, promises, and even entire pieces of a person's identity.

But there was one warning written in red ink:

**The Veil does not destroy memories. It moves them.**

Elara read the sentence three times.

Then she heard footsteps.

She turned.

King Aldren stood in the doorway.

He looked at the book in her hands.

"Where did you find that?"

"Why didn't you tell me the truth?"

The king slowly closed the door.

"Because the truth would destroy you."

"I'm already afraid."

"You should be."

Elara's voice shook.

"What happened to Mother?"

The king said nothing.

"Tell me."

He finally looked into her eyes.

"Your mother never forgot you."

Elara frowned.

"What does that mean?"

The king stepped closer.

"Because I was the one who made her forget."

Elara stopped breathing.

PART 2 — The Memory Hidden Inside the Crown

"Why?" Elara whispered.

King Aldren looked older than he had that morning.

"Because your mother discovered what the Veil was really created for."

"What was it created for?"

The king reached for the crown resting on the table beside him.

It was an ancient silver crown covered with black gemstones.

"To protect the throne," he said.

"From what?"

"From the truth."

Elara stared at him.

Aldren explained that generations of kings had used the Veil to erase memories of rebellions, forbidden marriages, secret heirs, and political crimes.

The crown had been enchanted to store the memories removed by the Veil.

Every secret erased by a royal ruler was trapped inside it.

"Then why does everyone believe our family is so noble?" Elara asked.

The king looked away.

"Because they don't remember the alternative."

Elara felt sick.

Then the doors exploded open.

Lord Varrick entered with armed knights.

"Step away from the crown, Princess."

Elara turned toward him.

"You knew."

Varrick lowered his sword.

"I knew enough to understand what your father has done."

The king drew his own blade.

"You will not take my daughter."

Varrick laughed bitterly.

"I'm not here for your daughter. I'm here for what she can unlock."

He pointed toward the crown.

"The memories inside it belong to the entire kingdom."

Elara finally understood.

The crown was not merely holding royal secrets.

It was holding the truth of the kingdom itself.

Varrick wanted her to release it.

But Aldren stepped between them.

"If those memories return, millions of people will remember things they were never supposed to know. Wars could begin again. Families could collapse. The kingdom could tear itself apart."

Elara looked at her father.

"And if we keep them hidden?"

Aldren's silence answered her.

Varrick suddenly attacked.

Elara raised her hand instinctively.

The room became silent.

Varrick stopped moving.

His sword slipped from his fingers.

Elara felt something leave her body like a breath pulled from her soul.

Varrick looked at her.

"What did you do?"

Elara had erased his memory of why he hated the king.

But then something unexpected happened.

Varrick began to cry.

"I remember now," he whispered.

Elara stepped backward.

"Remember what?"

Varrick pointed at the crown.

"Your father didn't erase my memory."

The king's face went white.

"Varrick, stop."

"Your mother did."

Elara stared at him.

"That's impossible."

Varrick shook his head.

"Your mother discovered the crown was corrupting every king who wore it. She tried to destroy it. Your father stopped her. Then she used the Veil on herself."

Elara's heart broke.

"She erased her own memory?"

"No," Varrick said softly. "She erased the memory of where she hid the truth."

Elara looked at the crown.

A strange warmth spread through her fingers.

She understood.

Her mother had not forgotten Elara.

She had hidden the memory inside the one person who could never be searched by the crown.

Her daughter.

The moment Elara touched the crown, thousands of memories flooded into her mind.

She saw kings making cruel decisions.

She saw queens begging them to stop.

She saw entire villages erased from history.

Then she saw her mother holding baby Elara for the first time.

Seraphine was crying.

But she was smiling.

"If you ever remember this," her mother whispered inside the memory, "it means you are old enough to choose what happens next."

Elara opened her eyes.

The crown was cracking.

Her father dropped to his knees.

"Please," Aldren whispered. "Don't release everything."

Elara looked at him.

"I won't."

She placed both hands on the crown.

Instead of releasing every stolen memory, she erased the crown's power.

The black gemstones turned to dust.

Across the kingdom, people began remembering only what had been stolen from them personally—nothing more.

Old wounds returned.

Old truths surfaced.

But the kingdom did not fall.

For the first time in centuries, its people could choose what to do with the truth.

King Aldren resigned his crown before sunrise.

Years later, Elara became queen.

She never used the Veil to control anyone again.

Instead, she created a new law: no ruler could erase another person's memory, no matter how powerful the crown or kingdom became.

And every year, on the day she became queen, Elara visited her mother's empty room.

She would sit beside the window and remember everything.

The fear.

The betrayal.

The love.

And the woman who had trusted her daughter with the most dangerous secret in the kingdom.

Elara finally understood why her mother had hidden the truth.

Some memories were painful.

Some memories could destroy kingdoms.

But the most dangerous thing of all was letting someone else decide what you were allowed to remember.
